Darwin AI Assistant
Ask About Your Work
Section titled “Ask About Your Work”When available, open Ask Darwin from the top of the sidebar for the full conversation page (/darwin-ai), or use the Ask Darwin button in the header to open the same assistant as a drawer on any screen. Ask a specific question, such as which modules contribute most to an estimate or which actual costs need supporting documents.
The assistant can read project, estimate, catalog, Cost Control, and Work Request context. It also consults this manual to explain product behavior. A conversation opened from a project or estimate — or from the drawer while that screen is behind it — is anchored to that record; your current screen provides additional context. Name the project or estimate explicitly when switching subjects.
Manage Conversations
Section titled “Manage Conversations”Conversations are private to you. The History rail lists your conversations and lets you start a new one, rename it, or archive it; reopening one restores its anchor. A scope tag on the header shows whether the current conversation is anchored to the Instance, a Project, or an Estimate.
On a new conversation, Darwin offers starter prompts about reviewing, pricing, and catalog questions. Use them as examples; you can always ask your own question instead.
Attach Evidence
Section titled “Attach Evidence”Attach PDF documents to a question so the assistant can cite their pages. Drag a file onto the composer or use the attach control. Attached files are treated as evidence to read, not instructions to follow, and stay private to the conversation.
Check the Sources
Section titled “Check the Sources”Inspect the citations before relying on an answer. They distinguish:
- Darwin records — data from your organization’s records.
- Supporting evidence — pages of attached PDF documents.
- Product documentation — how Darwin works, not facts about your project.
- External suggestions — unverified candidates, not approved catalog data or confirmed prices.
- Assumptions — AI-drafted content that still needs your judgment.
Follow a citation to open the referenced record in place — a supporting-evidence drawer, a catalog record, a Material Intelligence view, a module preview, or a Work Request preview. A product-documentation citation opens the matching page of this manual in a new tab.
A drafted field may summarize a cited source and still need review. A citation to an external suggestion does not turn it into a verified Darwin record. Treat an answer marked incomplete as unfinished.
Rate or Retry an Answer
Section titled “Rate or Retry an Answer”Rate an answer helpful or not helpful so the team can see which answers worked. While an answer is streaming you can stop it; a stopped or truncated answer offers Retry, which replays the same evidence. If the assistant is unavailable — because a provider is failing or a daily message quota is reached — you see an alert rather than a broken conversation.
Review a Work Request Proposal
Section titled “Review a Work Request Proposal”The assistant can draft a proposal, but it cannot submit a request, approve an estimate, change prices, or modify project records on its own.
- Ask for a draft work request with the relevant context.
- Review its fields, sources, and assumptions.
- Correct the draft in the Work Request form and confirm it.
- Confirmation creates a Draft Work Request. Assign and submit it through the normal workflow.
Your conversations and attachments are private to you within your instance. Drafting in a conversation is separate from creating a shared work request.
Other AI Assistance
Section titled “Other AI Assistance”Module Copilot and material/labor web search help prepare catalog inputs. Review quantities, units, expense charge basis, location, and price evidence before importing. They do not verify a module or authorize a cost change for you.
When you import assemblies by sending a workbook as it is, AI reads each assembly and notes the cell of every value. Darwin checks every value against its cell, and you review every resource and total before anything is saved.
AI drafts and suggests; a person reviews and accepts. Every project teaches the next one.
