Transportation Rates
Transportation rates help Darwin model logistics more realistically. Instead of hiding delivery costs inside arbitrary unit-price adjustments, transportation rates keep logistics assumptions visible and structured.
Why Transportation Rates Matter
Section titled “Why Transportation Rates Matter”Transportation cost can vary by:
- Distance
- Supplier location
- Delivery conditions
- Project geography
Keeping these rates structured improves traceability and makes pricing less fragile.
How They Work
Section titled “How They Work”Transportation rates are maintained in the configuration area and can be linked to expenses within modules. When a module includes logistics-driven expenses, the transportation rate provides the cost basis for delivery and handling.
Best Practices
Section titled “Best Practices”- Define transportation rates for the regions and supplier locations you work with
- Update rates when fuel costs or delivery terms change
- Link transportation rates to relevant expenses rather than embedding flat amounts
- Review rates periodically to ensure they reflect current market conditions
